NextEra and First Energy Applications

Our team continues to track the MARL Line and Gore-Doubs-Goose Creek (GDGC) Line at
the WV PSC. You can lodge your comments in opposition to these two proposed lines that
will take WV power to benefit datacenter growth in northern Virgina. These comments will
be reviewed by the PSC when both NextEra and FirstEnergy file their applications later this
year. We think both companies are waiting for mid-December to file their applications in
order to distract us during the holidays. These underhanded tactics should tell you how
unpopular these lines are with West Virginians and what these out-of-state corporations
will do to win at YOUR expense. WATI will continue to hold a spotlight to prevent these
backdoor antics, and we will fight to keep the window open to allow property owners and
other impacted citizens to register with the PSC as interveners.
This week the PJM rejected NextEra’s request to string a second 500 Kv line on the MARL
project. This should tell you that the “demand” cry coming from northern Virginia is not
credible. Also, many of our local leaders were given the impression that this second line
would allow WV counties to have substations – this is not true. Please watch the video from
WATI’s Vice President, Bryan Hockman, on the WATI Facebook page. He shares his
knowledge as an electrical engineer debunking the false claims of speculative substations.
